Mockup på SND:s årsberättelse 2023

It has been yet another active year for SND. We have seen an increasing trend in both the publication of and demand for research data. In SND’s annual report for 2023, you can read about SND's initiatives, projects, and collaborations to address this trend, both at the national and international level.

A shift in leadership

During the year, SND has undergone several changes at the management level. After eight years as director of SND, Max Petzold stepped down to become vice-chancellor at the University of Gothenburg. In the autumn, Eva Stensköld was appointed as the new director of SND. Eva has previously served as a Senior Research Officer at the Swedish Research Council's council for research infrastructures and is well-acquainted with SND's mission and activities. A new steering committee also took office in 2023.

Structural changes in the SND research data catalogue

During 2023, some significant have been made to the SND research data catalogue and SND’s publishing tool, DORIS. These changes have improved the user experience and made it easier to find and share data via SND. The changes also mean that the catalogue is better aligned with global standards, making Swedish research data more accessible internationally.

Four flagship projects

During the year, members of the SND Consortium have driven four flagship projects. The purpose of these projects is to introduce and improve procedures, knowledge, and technology in research data management, so that other academic institutions can benefit from the results.

New national portal for Swedish research data: researchdata.se

Researchdata.se is a collaborative project to create a new national platform aimed at making it easier for researchers to find, share, and reuse data. In the spring of 2023, a project plan was developed and approved by SND's steering committee, and SND and the project's collaborating organizations are now fully engaged in the work.

As a consequence of the work on researchdata.se, SND will, among other things, move the content under ‘Manage Data’ from SND's website to the new platform for researchers. SND utilizes this opportunity to refine the content on our website.

Ten year anniversary for RDA

The Research Data Alliance held its anniversary conference in March as the organization celebrated its tenth year. SND and Chalmers University of Technology organized the conference with the theme ‘A Decade in Data: Celebrating 10 Years of the Research Data Alliance’. The conference attracted 500 participants who took part in seminars and discussions on the future of the open data landscape.
